I'm taking psychology as one of my electives in school, and the first contretemps topic we went over was nature vs. nurture.
So now i ask you, what is the dominant component in a person's character, is it their genome or their environments in which they were brought up.

I have to say the events that occur when your growing up have more of an influence than your genes, but your genes do have at least some influence overall.

I say this because I know identicle twins, and they have completely different personallities to the point where if you know them you can tell who is who by how they are dressed, or if they are dressed identically (they like to mess with peeps), by what they say/facial expressions.

Surroundings control what you do. Genes control how you do them. That's always how I've thought of it.

nurture: how the environment makes you become
nature: your genes are what makes you, you
So i would say nurture, the way people treat you is the way you become,
genes have nothing to do with it overall hair color, eye color,etc.
