Do you think that plants are capable of feeling pain? If so how do you think this applies to people?

Don't poke me, I'm a cucumber! D:

If plants feel pain, vegetarians are just as bad as the rest of us.

Plants have been known to release a certain chemical while being ripped out of the ground. :S

Well there is nothing that say's that even thought he plants don't have a nervous system that the individual cells themselves cannot feel the pain, plus the top half of the plant is still alive after being cut/pulled/knocked down and the cells in the upper half must suffer a slow death as the nutrients slowly leave them and they are starved in their own wastes.

I don't think plants feel pain since they lack a crucial component known as a brain and nervous system. I, personally, have been a vegetarian for 7 years (half of my entire life) and i believe that i am a pretentious jackass that has saved the lives of many animals.

I love to eat veggies, nothing is being said against them and vegetarians.

Quiet, peasant.

It is only natural to assume that solely root vegetables are capable of feeling something similar to pain. When they're ripped out of their environment, as I said, they release a chemical I cannot remember the name of. This is their "stress" or "omgwtfbbqishappening" chemical.

Can plants feel pain? No, i don't think plants would feel pain. The reason is because plants do not have a brain, and pain works by when you do damage to a person/animal etc, the infected part sends a message to the brain saying something hurts. And since plants don't have brains, it cancels the whole thing out.

No darling. Pain is physiological, not a cognitive response. Starfish have no brains, yet they contract when you poke them. :3

No, that's a starfish, not a plant...

Your argument is invalid. You said something has to have a brain to feel pain; it doesn't necessarily need to be an animal. I proved you wrong by pointing out that starfish, while having no "brain", can feel pain. >_>

Yeah, they may react to pain, but they can not feel the pain.

Tell me, how does one react to something he cannot feel?

For example, when your hand goes numb for no reason, when you hit it, you can feel it, but it doesn't hurt.

Of course not, but again you did not answer my question. You told me that something can react to a sensation even if said sensation cannot be felt.

Now, if a sensation can't be felt, how could anything or anyone react to it? If it can't be felt, it is known to know one, and therefore does not exist.

When someone touches him, the nerves tell the starfish something is touching him, thus making him move.

Exactly - he felt someone touch him. Because he felt it, he reacted by moving. If the starfish hadn't felt something brush up against him, he would not have reacted.

Therefore your argument is invalid; something cannot be reacted to if it is not felt.

Plants are developed life forms, and therefore feel pain.
