| Hello, and welcome to Fuji Planet’s NFL Predictions game for the 2010-2011 NFL season. This is a general post describing everything involved with the Predictions game. I strongly request everyone playing in the game read this post, as it contains all the information you will need to enter your predictions correctly. I am not assuming that we will have more than 8 players, so I will post everything with 5 to 8 players, with the exception of the playoff formats and prizes. I don’t think much else hinges on how many players we have. So, let’s get started… These are the people who have signed up to predict this season’s games. There are no ranks; this is a pure list by who signed up first. Einsteinean Admin Jshushij Circle Boy Cyclone Yousuck24 Timmy Abhor Here is a link to the entire NFL schedule: http://www.mahalo.com/2010-nfl-schedule#NFL_Week_One_2010 Here are the numbers of games per week for the regular season: Weeks 1-3: 16 games per week Weeks 4-7: 14 games per week Weeks 8-9: 13 games per week Week 10: 14 games Weeks 11-17: 16 games per week Now, on to the procedure for each week: For the first week of predicting, I will post the games on Tuesday since the first game of the week is on Thursday. This will be the same for all weeks with the first game on Thursday. The corresponding weeks are 1 and 10 through 16. If the first game of a week is on a Sunday, then I will post the games on the preceding Friday. I will post the games in this code. | Code: | From earliest game to the latest game in the week:
Away Team vs. Home Team |
So, say the Ravens were playing against the Jets in New York at 8:00 PM Thursday and the Steelers were playing the Colts in Pittsburgh at 1 PM on Sunday. The list would be this:
Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts
TO SELECT THE TEAM YOU THINK WILL WIN, leave the team you select in italics. In other words, take off the tags away from the team you think will lose.
So, if I wanted the Ravens and the Colts to win, I would type this:
| Code: | Baltimore Ravens vs. New York Jets Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts
|
I will be posting all the games for the week at once.
I will post the list of games twice in my posts for each week. One list will have both teams in the italics tags in a code bar to make it easy for you to make your predictions. I will also have my predictions in a second list. They will be easier to make out when I actually post them on Week 1.
Deadlines for submitting picks is kickoff of the game, meaning you can submit picks for Thursday games on Thursday morning, Sunday games on Sunday morning, etc. This is firm because you can still win prizes without predicting all games. More on that later.
Some other things will be posted along with the list of games. These include, but are not limited to:
The standings chart. For those that predicted last year, you know what it looks like. I will be adding up the total games you have predicted, the total games you have predicted correctly, calculating the percentage, then posting standings in the farthest left column.
Example:
Stand. Username Picked Correct Attempted Picks % Correct 1st Player 1 62 100 62 2nd Player 2 53 100 53 4th Player 3 47 100 47 5th Player 4 41 100 41 6th Player 5 29 100 29 3rd Player 6 24 50 48
Any weekly FB prizes won the previous week. As I did last year, I will hand out weekly prizes for exceptional individual weeks. You have to pick the entire week to recieve a prize for it. No exceptions. Here are those prizes:
For a 16-Game Week:
12 correct: 75 FBs (75) 13 correct: 100 FBs (81.25) 14 correct: 175 FBs (87.50) 15 correct: 300 FBs (93.75) 16 correct: 400 FBs (100)
For a 15-Game Week:
12 correct: 65 FBs (80) 13 correct: 150 FBs (86.66) 14 correct: 250 FBs (93.33) 15 correct: 350 FBs
For a 14-Game Week:
11 correct: 60 FBs (78.57) 12 correct: 125 FBs (85.71) 13 correct: 200 FBs (92.86) 14 correct: 300 FBs
For a 13-Game Week:
10 correct: 45 FBs (76.92) 11 correct: 90 FBs (84.62) 12 correct: 150 FBs (92.31) 13 correct: 250 FBs
Regular Season Prizes: (Need to predict 75% of top predictor)
1st place wins 1000 FBs 2nd place wins 500 FBs 3rd place wins 250 FBs
PLAYOFFS:
The regular season NFL Predictions Playoffs will run from Weeks 15-17. The NFL Postseason will be predicted in a separate game, which will be described in more detail later in this post.
In order to be eligible to predict in the playoffs, you must submit predictions for either 10 complete weeks OR predict 125 games. Either way you will be entered into the playoffs. Hence, after Week 6 begins, no one may enter the predictions game that wants to participate in the playoffs. I think this amount gives you plenty of leeway in case you miss a week of predictions for whatever reason.
Here would be the playoff schedule for an 8-person format:
Week 15:
Seed #1 vs. Seed #8 (Matchup 1) Seed #2 vs. Seed #7 (Matchup 2) Seed #3 vs. Seed #6 (Matchup 3) Seed #4 vs. Seed #5 (Matchup 4)
Week 16:
Winner of Matchup 1 vs. Winner of Matchup 4 (Matchup 5) Winner of Matchup 2 vs. Winner of Matchup 3 (Matchup 6)
Week 17:
Winner of Matchup 5 vs. Winner of Matchup 6 (Matchup 7) Loser of Matchup 5 vs. Loser of Matchup 6 (Matchup 8 )
And here are the playoff finishes: 1st- Winner of Matchup 7 wins 800 FBs 2nd- Loser of Matchup 7 wins 400 FBs 3rd- Winner of Matchup 8 wins 200 FBs 4th- Loser of Matchup 8 wins 100 FBs In the case of an 8-team playoff, only the top 4 would get prizes, so they would be the only ones receiving places.
In the case of a 7-team matchup:
Week 15:
All seeds would play a round robin, meaning they make picks as usual.
Week 16:
The top 4 scores from Week 15 are taken.
Seed #1 vs. Seed #4 (Matchup 1) Seed #2 vs. Seed #3 (Matchup 2)
Week 17:
Winner of Matchup 1 vs. Winner of Matchup 2 (Matchup 3) Loser of Matchup 1 vs. Loser of Matchup 2 (Matchup 4)
Here are the finishes:
1st- Winner of Matchup 3 wins 600 FBs 2nd- Loser of Matchup 4 wins 300 FBs 3rd- Winner of Matchup 4 wins 150 FBs 4th- Loser of Matchup 4 wins 75 FBs
5th through 7th would not get prizes
If we end with 6 teams qualifying:
Week 15:
Seed #1 vs. Seed #6 (Matchup 1) Seed #2 vs. Seed #5 (Matchup 2) Seed #3 vs. Seed #4 (Matchup 3)
Week 16:
Losers of Matchups 1, 2 and 3 are eliminated. Winners of Matchups 1, 2 and 3 play in a round robin, making picks as usual.
Week 17:
Top 2 scores of week 16 play each other in a matchup.
Finishes:
1st: Winner of Week 17 Matchup wins 500 FBs 2nd: Loser of Week 17 Matchup wins 250 FBs 3rd: Lowest score from Week 16 round robin play wins 100 FBs
4th to 6th would not get prizes.
If we finished with 5 teams qualifying:
Week 15:
Round robin, picks as usual.
Week 16:
Lowest score is eliminated. Seed #1 vs. Seed #4 (Matchup 1) Seed #2 vs. Seed #3 (Matchup 2)
Week 17:
Winner of Matchup 1 vs. Winner of Matchup 2 (Matchup 3)
Finishes:
1st: Winner of Matchup 3 wins 400 FBs 2nd: Loser of Matchup 3 wins 150 FBs
3rd through 5th would not get prizes.
If we end up with 4 qualifiers:
Week 15 becomes an optional week for players who have already qualified. If you have not qualified, you CAN NOT use this week to qualify for the playoffs. Qualifiers may use this week to try to improve their standings. Week 16:
Seed #1 vs. Seed #4 (Matchup 1) Seed #2 vs. Seed #3 (Matchup 2)
Week 17:
Winner of Matchup 1 vs. Winner of Matchup 2 (Matchup 3)
Finishes:
1st: Winner of Matchup 3 wins 300 FBs 2nd: Loser of Matchup 3 wins 100 FBs
3rd and 4th do not get prizes.
If we end up with 3 qualifiers:
Week 15 becomes an optional week for players who have already qualified. If you have not qualified, you CAN NOT use this week to qualify for the playoffs. Qualifiers may use this week to try to improve their standings.
Week 16:
All 3 teams make picks in a round robin.
Week 17:
Seed #1 vs. Seed #2 (Matchup 1)
Finishes:
1st: Winner of Matchup 1 wins 250 FBs
2nd and 3rd do not get prizes.
If we only have 2 qualifiers:
Weeks 15 and 16 become bye weeks. They will not increase your standing for the playoffs, so these weeks are bye weeks. Normal weekly prizes will be offered, however.
Week 17:
Seed #1 vs. Seed #2 (Matchup 1)
Finish:
1st: Winner of Matchup 1 wins 200 FBs
If we only have 1 qualifier, weeks 15-17 will be weekly prize bye weeks.
The qualifier will win 200 FBs.
PREDICTING THE NFL PLAYOFFS:
Predicting the NFL Playoffs will be a separate contest from the Regular Season predictions.
As you may or may not know, the NFL Postseason or Playoffs are divided into 4 different sections of games. Obviously, we will not know the participating teams until the end of the regular season. However, this does not hinder the effort to set this up now rather than later.
As for the wildcard set of games, you can use the same method to enter your predictions with the italics and whatnot.
You can sign up for the playoff predicting game at any time. All of the basic rules are the same from the regular to the postseason. The only difference is the prizes and related stuff.
So, on to the prizes and related stuff. You will be predicting all 11 postseason games including the Super Bowl.
For the wildcard and divisional rounds, you predict like we did in the regular season. They will be counted up and put into standings.
When the conference championships roll around, I will set everyone into matchups. If we have an odd amount of people, someone will have to sit out and not predict. Hopefully we will have an even 6 or 8 player field.
Anyway, what you will do for the conference championships is simple. Al you will do is predict the final score and the winner. I realize that is redundant, but after I explain the way I will score it, it will be easier to understand my redundancy.
So, after predicting all 8 wildcard and divisional games, here is how it will go:
If there are 4 participants:
The #1 and #4 seeds will submit predictions for the Conference Championship games in the form above. Score and winner.
The #2 and #3 seeds will do the same.
The winners will be calculated using this formula.
If you predict either team’s score within 7 points, you will get 1 point. If you get it within 3 points, 2 points. If you predict it exactly, 4 points. So, if I predict the winning team’s score to 6 points and the losing team’s score exactly, I get 6 points. If I predict both exactly, 8 points.
So, the maximum score for the conference championships is 16 points.
The team with the higher amount of points moves on to the Super Bowl. The losing team is eliminated and receives no FBs. The winning team receives 50 FBs.
If you score more than 10 points, you will receive a 50 FB bonus. 12 points, 100 FBs. 13 FBs, 200 FBs. 14, 300 FBs. 15, 500 FBs. If you predict the entire weekend completely correct, 750 FBs.
So, in a 4-team format, the winners will predict the Super Bowl and use the same scoring format.
If we end up with 6 teams, we do the same scoring, except there will be no matchups. Quite simply, the 2 highest totals will predict the Super Bowl. If you get 6 points in the SB, 50 FBs. 7 oints, 100 FBs. 8, 250 FBs.
Now, in this case with 6 players, third place will get 50 FBs.
In the case of 8 players, 4th place will get 30 FBs, 3rd will get 75 FBs, 2nd 150 FBs, 1st, 250.
I don’t think we’ll worry about the Pro Bowl.
I think I’ve covered pretty much everything. At the bottom of this post will also be the up to the week standing sheet once the season gets started.
Other General Reminders:
I will post the games for EVERY week whether it is a bye or not.
I hope everyone has a good season this year. I will be updating this post quite frequently until I solemnly believe it is perfect. Feel free to make any comments, questions, suggestions or criticism known to me either through posting or through a PM, but please keep it respectful.
Good luck everyone!
Oh, and btw, this will get me to be the first to get the 1000-word post achievement. This thing has nearly 2200 words in it, check it on Microsoft Word if you don't believe me.

| You don't have to read it all at once. In fact, I do not recommend reading it all at once. Break it up based on what you need to know and when. |

| Oh, it's because I typed: .
It should say Matchup 8.
When we get to the playoffs, I'll highlight the correct playoff format. If we get any more participants I'm going to have to make 9- and 10-team playoff formats.

| Thanks Cy, lol.
New update. Regular season prizes are as follows:
You get 3 FujiBucks for every game you predict. You get an additional 3 FBs for every game picked correctly. I.e. if you pick 50 games and 30 correct, you get 150+90 FujiBucks, or 240 FujiBucks. |
