| Skateboarding
In the 1950's, skate boarding came into action. Some Californian's said skateboarding could recreate the feeling of riding a wave. Nobody knows who made the first board, though; it seems that several people came up with similar ideas of skateboarding at the same time. Several people themselves say that they invented skateboard, but nobody can prove it.
The first skateboard was made out of wood and roller skate wheels on the bottom. While some people do skateboarding as movement for short distances, others use it to perform stunts. As usual, people back then got hurt, but that didn't seem to stop them, look how far skateboarding is now! The wooden boxes turned into planks, and companies then were making decks of layers of wood close to the skateboards today.
During back then, skateboarding was seen as something to do for fun similar to surfing. Around into the 1960's, skating became popular, very popular. Then, companies were holding competitions, then tournaments, then eventually, the X-Games.
Then, in 1965, skateboarding suddenly crashed. Some people thought that skateboarding was a "style" that had died out. Companies producing skateboarding folded, and those who wanted to skate, had to make their own, from scratch.
If you want to own a skateboard, you can make one from buying different parts, it'll cost's maybe $100-$200, but if you buy one that’s already made, it'll cost $300 to $400. Each skateboard has its own design, which makes each one unique. Skateboards have the design on their back. Some people make a living making skate boards or even skateboarding. Take Tony Hawk for example. He earns about 20,000 a month.
By 1990, skateboarding was shown on ESPN and then later on the “X-Games competitions”. These TV events show the extremes of skateboard.
